Tilman Hausherr commented on PDFBOX-3293:
-----------------------------------------
I'd be interested because this is something that has been a pain for Chinese
users for many years.
Is this something that would be only for fontbox, or pdfbox too? From what I
remember, hinting is related to the actual rendering dimensions.
We don't mind AI, but be careful:
https://www.apache.org/legal/generative-tooling.html
We'd also need an ICLA
https://www.apache.org/licenses/contributor-agreements.html#submitting
Also be patient, there's currently lots of work related to another huge flaw
that we had for years (PDFBOX-4951)

> Font glyphs with overlapping paths may be rendered in correctly, especially
> when the font size is small.
> Sadly, the Traditional Chinese edition of Windows bundled fonts 細明體&新細明體
> (MingLiU & PMingLiU) and 標楷體 (DFKai-SB) all suffer from this problem.
> See attached sample.pdf and the rendered sample_rendered.tif.
