Looks like you committed the Jekyll project to the asf-site branch. You actually want this branch to contain the generated HTML content.

You can pretty much choose whatever other branch you want to maintain the Jekyll project. We have a commit hook that you could copy over in Accumulo if you're curious:

I think the only thing that has any bearing on the branch name is that if you use gh-pages as the name, you will get the automatic rendering on GH (via http://apache.github.io/incubator-pirk) which can be useful for GH forks (but definitely not crazy important).
