GH rendering is probably busted because you're expecting the website to
deployed at '/' (when it's actually at '/incubator-pirk').
Not an issue unless it bothers you. The pirk.incubator.a.o website
should be the "canonical" copy.
Great work, too. Looks really nice and has the necessary attributions to
the ASF and Incubator already!

You can pretty much choose whatever other branch you want to maintain the
Jekyll project. We have a commit hook that you could copy over in Accumulo

I think the only thing that has any bearing on the branch name is that if
you use gh-pages as the name, you will get the automatic rendering on GH
(via http://apache.github.io/incubator-pirk) which can be useful for GH
forks (but definitely not crazy important).
