I was planning on writing a patch for field special characters being
included in text extraction next, but didn't know the status of a Word
maintainer.
That would be wonderful if you could do. Please do upload it to bugzilla,
and hopefully it'll get it soon.
In general though, the policy on new committers is:
* someone submits a series of good patches, including unit tests
* most of these patches can be applied with little / no changes
* the person stay around for several months (doesn't just submit a bunch
of patches then vanish)
* at the end of that time, they're still about, still producing patches,
answering questions on the list etc
* one of the existing committers notices the above
* then we vote to offer them committership
So, if you're interested in helping out with HWPF (which we'd really
like!), that's the process for becoming the official HWPF maintainer :)
