PDF support in POI is limited to 1 or 2 small areas. I don't think it is a good idea to have PDFBox drive our release schedules.
Is there anything in PDFBox 4 that we need? We recently upgrade to PDFBox 3 and my understanding is that PDFBox 3 and 4 are pretty similar. PDFBox 3 still has Java 8 support. I want to ask about the roadmap to PDFBox 4.0, specifically: - Java version: currently PDFBox 4.0 is on Java 11. In the meantime, we have two newer LTS versions (17 and 21). Many important projects have decided to bump minimum requirements to Java 17 in the meantime like Spring and Spring BOOT, JOOQ, and others. What are your thoughts? Personally, I think staying on Java 11 is alright, I just wanted to ask. - How far along have we come towards 4.0? Maybe a first alpha could be released to get more people trying out the new version - and yes, I’d probably just jump to a 4.0 alpha release with my own personal project ;-) - If there’s anything blocking a release, let me know where I can contribute (I will probably have less time now than during the last months because I have a new budget from my main customer for my day job so will be more busy than in december).
