Hi Dmitri I got your point, and we have a bit of activity on Zulip. However, without judging the "features" of each chat service, the fact is that Slack is more "popular" for the Polaris/Iceberg ecosystem. Also, we are talking about chat service here, not an alternative to the mailing list: it's more short term discussions or help. Any longer discussion should happen on the mailing list. A lot of Apache projects are actually using two mailing lists: dev for contributions/code/design discussion, user for end-user asking for help or guidance.
Maybe we should update Bylaws allowing anyone to create channel on Slack (to have separate/specific discussions). Regards JB
