Hi Shaun,
It seems as though OOo 1.9.79, does not add it's
version to the file, ~/.sversionrc .
On adding the line:
OpenOffice.org 1.9.79=file:///opt/openoffice.org1.9.79
to the end of the file, Terry Teague's Start Open
Office.org app will then be able to open OOo1.9.79.
1) OOo2 does no longer use this file.
2) Terry is currently working on an updated version of his launcher app 
to make it work with OOo2.
I'm not sure when this file is generated, or when
entries are added in previous versions.
I understand about the install location, it was just a
thought.
I would also like to note that I have noticed a
problem with OOo1.9.79, when trying to open files from
AFP servers. NeoOffice works fine, but 1.9.79 doen't
open any files, though it will browse the directories.
I don't know if this has been corrected in more recent
builds, or if more investigation is required. I had
noticed somewhere that some people were having a
problem with certain characters in the file name.
No, unfortunately this does not work in m87 either.
It does however work in OOo 1.1.4 so something must have changed since 
then.
