Slowly I get the strange feeling that something must be totally messed up with either your Mac, your installation of XCode or your fink/Darwinports/gentoo or whatever package manager you use installation. You should think about starting over from the start and trash the current installations of the packages you need. I once run into this mess too and the only solution back then was to remove fink and XCode Tools and start over from scratch with XCode and fink. Since I had enoug fink I switched to Darwinports and so far I didn't regret it. My recommendation would be: Remove currently installed XCode Tools. Remove currently installed fink Download latest available fink for Tiger. see <http://fink.sourceforge.net/> for more informations. Carefully read what they write about this release and about Tiger support. If you are unsure ask on the fink mailinglists. If you want to you can also try Darwinports. It looks as if the continuesly update their ports for Tiger. So far no official statement but if you look at the mailinglist archives they are nearly equal with fink. Both claim to have 1500 ports Tiger ready. Once fink or Darwinports is up and running and the paths are set. Again read the fink FAQ or the Darwinports documentation on how to set the path and which files to edit. Now that either fink or Darwinports is up and running you should do a fink selfupdate or a "sudo port -d selfupdate" to get latest main app versions and latest package descriptions. Next would be to simply install gtk2 via fink or Darwinports. Since quite some time Darwinport uses pkgconfig 0.17.x which causes OOo to break. You need to downgrade to 0.15.x. A description can be found here <http://www.opendarwin.org/pipermail/darwinports/2005-may/025810.html>. Again read carefully the instructions. So you first have to install old pkgconfig for Darwinports and afterwarts install gtk2. If you miss pkgconfig installation gtk2 will install pkgconfig as a depency but the 0.17.x one and that's the one you don't want. > I tried downloading it from the Oasis web/ftp site and it is > corrupt there. Sent the webmaster a message advising of this. > Did you need DocBook support to complete the installation of the > gtk+2 package? Nope. DocBook support isn't installed here and afaik not needed. Please also remember that for OOo you need to use gcc3.3 and perhaps for other apps too? You also may have to switch between gcc 3.3 for OOo and the default Tiger gcc 4.0 for the fink/Darwinports apps. You can do so by using sudo gcc_select <versionnumber>.
