cmd-v will give you the console messages while booting
cmd-s force the boot as single user (to repair partitions)

For several reason, I installed both Panther and Tiger
in a firewire external HDD, and I'm always building OOo by
ssh'ing from my home. I love 80x25 black and white terminal.
