I quite agree with you but I have no good idea how to split the patches. One idea is to split them by projects but as most of makefiles are affected, it may become piles of too many fragments. Maybe it makes sense to split them into global parts (config_office, solenv, scp?), project with only obvious modifications (makefile modification to cope with library naming convention and source modification to cope with language incompatibility of the compiler only), and some parts including only one project which requires essential modification.
