No.  gcc4 does not equal gcc 3.  There were MAJOR changes between the
two versions.  I would undo the fix and find a copy of gcc for SuSE
Linux.  If you desire, you can open an IssueZilla (or search it first
and then open a new issue) for this problem.  This problem was
discovered by the MacOSX porting team and a great deal of ongoing effort
was taken to make OpenOffice build with gcc 4.0
