do i need to install x11 or something?
Yes. It's hidden deep down in the download section of Apple.com or
you can install it via your Panther/Install CDs/DVDs
is it possible to detect the presence/missing of X11 at installation
level and provide the user an explicit message (or better ask him
inserting its dvd, and the installer does the job itself)
but an explicit message is fine for a first step
