Mac OS X 10.4.5 on a MacBook Pro 1.83Ghz CoreDuo
The icon bounces in the dock for a few seconds and then closes. I
have been using X11 to use applications from Linux machies just fine,
so I can verify that X11 works properly. When I run the soffice
binary in the directory this is the output. I read on the forum that
you wanted any information regarding that happening with X11
installed.
Which X11 have you installed ? And which OpenOffice.org have you
installed ?
Both must be Intel versions !!! Either your X11 version is wrong or
OpenOffice.org version is...
Looking at your log, obviously the wrong one :

"wrong architecture" means IMHO you installed something
PowerPC .... Are you sure you have installed the X11 version shipped
with your MacBook ?
A) If you have mismatched the X11 versions ( else see directly B )
1) first uninstall X11 -> put the X11 Application you'll find into
Applications/Utilities in the trash and delete it.
2) go into /System/Library/Receipts and delete X11User.pkg
3) Now install the good X11. First, you can find it launching the
Tiger's install DVD :
- insert the DVD
- open "System" folder
- inside System folder open "Installation"
inside Installation open "Packages"
The good name is X11User.pkg
-> double clic and follow instructions. It should install smoothly.
=> if you really installed Mac Intel version, OpenOffice.org should
work.
B) in case of wrong OpenOffice.rog version
If you installed PowerPC version, remove OpenOffice.org application,
and install one you can find as follow :
OpenOffice.org *Mac Intel* :
IMPORTANT : VERIFY THE LINK DOES NOT HAVE SPACE IN THEIR NAMES
Mail looks buggy with that feature, and introduces spaces in links :-/
Maho's builds : ftp://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/
MacOSX/2.0.2rc4
And if it does not work, you can try (my) unofficial builds : http://
ooomisc.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/cws/upload/aquacolor/
This second one already use Aqua colors for UI ( available with
2.0.3 + other changes ).
Important : don't forget the Mac Intel (using X11) version is not
stable (wizards don't work), and will no be until it can successfully
pass QA tests.
e.g. : User preferences are now in not hidden directory called ~/
Library/Application Support/OpenOffice.org 2.0/
and I *strongly* suggest you to create : ~/Library/Application
Support/OpenOffice.org 2.0/user/template
( this will make some wizards work, excepted Dictionnaries and Fonts).
Last but not least, install fondu cannot be bad : <http://
eric.bachard.free.fr/Jap/fondu_040527+_0.2.pkg.zip>
(Apple fonts from system will become available)
Hope this will help you :-)

Eric Bachard
