Actually, OO can now compile under amd64 and run in native 64 bits
mode. No problem.

There is at least one 64-bit port in development.

I do not think there is any 64bit port done yet. :-)
I think what the Gentoo people are talking about is using 32bit libraries.
I don't know enough to say for sure though.
