Hey Garth,
I just tried to replicate the problem in 1.9.69 writer and I cannot do it. When I select file>save>Save as file type> I can save it word 6, word 95, 97,200, XP and 2003 XML formats. Perhaps its a bug with 1.1.3 under linux. 1.9.69 working with windows ME works fine.
