My general opinion, independent of the platform on which I test (Linux, Mac, FreeBSD) is that the sanity release checks are markedly insufficient to guarantee a GO/NO GO decision. These tests mainly focus on the cosmetic side of things, i.e. does my test Word/Excel/PPT file display correctly when opened in OOo (or when saved) ? These tests do not cover important functionality issues which is why I still do not understand how we can release a version based on the sanity release tests alone.
Of course, one can have an endless debate about which tests to include and which not, but the automated and manual tests are still more representative than the sanity release tests.
