Hi all,

I encountered a problem with BEA300_m1 (and Dev300_m9 and Dev300_m10) under Kubuntu 6.06 LTS.
See : http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=88724

After having searched with the help of Eric Bachard the source of the problem, it seems that there is a dependence problem with glibc2 as mentionned in the readme file. OOo 2.4 needs at least version 2.2.4 and BEA300_m1 needs at least version 2.3.1. It is very annoying because (K)ubuntu 6.06 has (if I understand well) version 2.2.x. So OOo 3.0 will not run on a only two years old Linux distribution.
I think it is not a good idea.

For testing purpose I have a workaround by adding export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN="gen" at the beginning of the soffice script. But it is not suitable for a stable version because it works only with "gen" and not with "kde" nor "gtk".

Another important point is the BEA300 packages do not specify this dependence. I am surprised that this key feature of packages system is not used in this case. I think installation should be refused if glibc2 is not up to date.

Kind regards
JBF

something similar (although different...) happens in Mandriva:

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=86389

And it seems there will be no solution, or there is no other solution than building OOo yourself on Mandriva.

It's a pity, because this way nobody with a Mandriva distro is using (and so not testing) Sun's build, but the one based in ooo-build/go-ooo.

Regards
Ariel.
