I would agree with you so far, but ...

... AFAIK this is not only near the Mexican border but in large 
towns all over the US as well. I seem to remember, that I saw a 
report about a large amount of Hispanics illegally living in the US, 
which seems to be a problem there ... :(

Says who ;? I searched the web and I found numbers reaching from 50 
to 70 Mio wrt German-Americans (e.g.  
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Americans, where you will find 
further links), though only 1.38 Mio should speak German there, 
according to 
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_in_the_United_States) ... ;)
