Addressed the first two bullets.
The third has already "evolved" :-)
bq. General comment. Should the ManagedAttribute/ManagedStatistic annotation
perhaps have a name attribute that we set to the constant defining the
attribute name used for all other implementation scenarios? Might help to keep
the relationship more obvious.
I'm not sure that the String constants should actually exist going forward...
the code should really always be using the getXXX or be being updated through a
management API. As the attributes migrate towards being "auto-managed" the use
of the constants is really restricted to the tests.
