Erin, we were previously discussing having the render method return a different
data model that would make more sense and allow for massaging data [1].
Couldn't that solve this problem without having to change the core data model?
To me it makes sense for the render method to return a page with nested regions
with nested regionwidgets (that can contain any widget data they need for
rendering). These data structures don't have to match the data structures from
the CRUD side.
