FWIW, I did use Maven versions plugin. I have integrated it into the script for next time.
IMO, regarding voting, again, I want us to re-program our mentality towards releasing quickly. If you run into a problem, I think you should ask: 1) how many people are going to be affected? 2) is there a workaround, and how difficult is it to implement? I would argue that a problem in the distribution folder's pom.xml is not going to affect very many people. If the workaround is to change the version number in the pom, that seems reasonable. However, I am going to cancel RC1 and create an RC2 because various emails yesterday made me realize that all of the example poms have the wrong versions. That is likely to affect a lot of people (or should since we want them to use the examples) and event though the workaround is simple, it means that lots of people are going to have to do it. So expect some commits noise while I test out a build script that updates those versions. I'll pull a few changes in from develop before creating the next RC, but unless we tweak how we use Maven more, we can't just merge develop into the release branch because the develop branch contains poms with the next release version. Again, we want to make releases quick and easy so more people want to do be the RM. If you've been following this thread and it sounds like a lot of work, it has been, but, IMO, it doesn't have to be this way. Nitpicking over IP issues are supposed to be done at commit time, if at all, not at release time.
