The problem with using HTML as a platform for interactive UI controls that can positioned in a variety of ways is that HTML wasn't designed to do this, which we all know. I've begun to think of DIV more like a base UI element that just happens to also have another abilities. I think other HTML-based frameworks do the same thing once you see the limitations of the primitive elements.
