There have been some interests, but at this point we don't exclude anybody.

So you have quite impressive statistics and programming background! 
I'm sure there are tons of things you can contribute to our project. 
As for the statistical analysis tools listed for this competition,
you'll be likely using UNO component technology to develop such tools,
so the following may be useful:

This post is actually regarding the Solver component, but it gives
some guidelines for learning the UNO API (you can skip the solver
specific part).  Unlike the Solver component, there has been no prior
work done on this stat tool task, so you have a lot of freedom here.

I don't know what you could accomplish within a three-month time, but
I hope you can come up with a good and feasible development plan that
fits this rather limited time frame.  (But hey, you can always come
back after the competition and finish up your work! :)
