Add-on based on lp_solve is available at http://solver.linuxml.com
I am planning to host this as an open source project at sourceforge .
If anybody is willing to help/participate, pl. let me know.

On the website you indicate that it's not free of charge for commercial use. What license do you have in mind ?

Kohei Yoshida is developing s uch an add-on, see
http://kohei.us/ooo/solver/index.html. There's also the idea to make
something based on the lp_solve library, but this is currently
    postponed
to see what comes out of Kohei's work. So the best way to help is with
    Kohei's component.
