Per the last comment #28, 2008-10-30 has passed and J2SE 1.4.2 has completed
its EOL transition period. Additionally, J2SE 5.0 is already in the same
transition period, to complete 2009-10-30. JDK 6.0/1.6 is very mainstream, and
7.0/1.7 is scheduled for release next year.

Any possibility for bringing some action to this now? This would be another
one of many improvements over java.util.logging.

Especially by creating a 2.0 release, any critical bugs could possibly continue
to be supported with additional 1.x maintenance releases. If there are still
users that committed to working with an EOL JDK, they can help to maintain or
patch the 1.x version as well, considering that the source is readily
available.
