I use eclipse for coding and emacs for editing. I think that more relevant information is conveyed by selectively emphasizing parts of the code in bold than done by just pretty coloring. Pretty coloring+selected emphasis would be perfect. However, selected emphasis with no coloring is more useful than coloring but no selected emphasis.

Hello Thorbjoern,

I am in favor of "code prettifiers" as long as they allow us to emphasize, e.g. present in bold, selected parts of the code, but if not, then I prefer ugly. :-)

I have tried to find a blog entry again who talked about that most programmers these days use a colouring editor, and that for the book he wrote, he spent a LONG time with the printer (or was it editor) to have the program samples printed with colour similar to what you see on-screen so you would get all the subtle hints that makes it easier to read and comprehend.

Unfortunately I cannot find it for now :((

What editor do you use? If you use Emacs or vi in a vt100 that might explain it :)
