Sumit, this is great! Very thorough. Pedantic is useful for making releases :)

I noticed a few minor errors which I've fixed.

One thing I'm curious about is your recommendation about using openssl for generating MD5s and SHA1s (Phase-2, Step #7). Personally, I like using md5sum or sha1sum so that the result can be fed directly back into the same tool (plus it doesn't necessitate having openssl installed). I've also seen recommendations for using gpg to generate the hashes. Thoughts?

Its a bit pedantic but I think it is easier to remove steps once the next
