I commited what I have in r1797390. Right now, I get 9 test failures locally
with nothing changed and the same amount (and actual tests) fail with my patch.
In other words, I'm fairly certain I didn't make it worse. If someone disagrees
we can always rollback. Otherwise, I'll resolve this issue.
