It ain't my bug, it landed in my lap because I maintain MakeMaker. Just passing it along. The latest MakeMaker will still install on 5.6.1, so you can require an updated MakeMaker without breaking 5.6.1 compatibility. I'd be pretty shocked if anyone is seriously running 5.6.1 and hasn't already upgraded MakeMaker.
