Really hard to say.  I can't really duplicate things.

On a devel box, I used cpan to install Mail::SpamAssassin on perl 5.8.6.

if I hit r, I don't see a lot of warnings about SpamAssassin.

if I type install Mail::SpamAssassin again, I get Mail::SpamAssassin is up to
date.

OK, so then switching over to perl 5.14.0, I can't install at all:

So my thoughts are, ONLY the SVN for trunk or 3.3 is suitable for use with perl
5.12.X (and higher).  

I'm going to see what I can do to upload the rc1 for 3.3.2 to my CPAN account. 
No real idea how that might work out ;-)
