P. Taylor Goetz commented on STORM-718:
---------------------------------------

[~LongdaFeng], any update on this?

The source code for the donation does not have to be a specific release. Any
changes you make after the donation could be applied later as a patch(es) once
the donation is accepted.

The main point behind the IP clearance process is to make sure all legal
documents are in place (Software Grant, CCLA, licenses, etc.) such that the ASF
can legally accept the donation. The code review part of the process (what I
need the source tarball for) is about making sure, from a licensing
perspective, that the code doesn't include anything incompatible with the ASF's
licensing guidelines (for example GPL/LGPL-licensed code or dependencies).

So unless the work you are doing involves removing code or dependencies with
incompatible licenses, I would say it's fine to proceed with preparing the
source code for donation.

Also, Alibaba will need to submit a Software Grant
(https://www.apache.org/licenses/software-grant.txt) for the donation. It's
customary to include the source code archive file name and SHA1 checksum in
that document.
