Rebased, and put in a work around for the flaky test. The test was using
the fact that the client's channel to the server was open as indication that
the channelConnected method must have finished executing on the server. That
doesn't seem to be the case in Netty 4, the client channel may report that it
is open while the server is still running channelActive.---
