Hi all,

as in the last few years, the ASF will participate as a mentor organization
in the Google Summer of Code 2021 (GSoC). More information can be found at
[1, 2].

ASF projects can provide ideas for student projects, for which accepted
students can apply for. I think this can be a very good opportunity to
broaden our community and to attract new contributors.

The process is as follows:

1. we can now collect issues that are suitable for GSoC participants on
the mailing list
2. then need to find one mentor from our community for each issue, and
3. can afterwards add them to Jira with a gsoc21 label.

So what do you think? What are good features that could be implemented by
GSoC students? Who would be willing to volunteer as a Mentor?

For instance, I think Lukas' recent proposal of having more visualizations
from the ECharts library would make for a very good proposal (and I'd be
willing to mentor this project).

Dominik
