I think Niall's previous idea of having a boolean "selected" attribute offers the simplest and most natural (i.e. as close to the original HTML tags) solution. I can create a patch but it's up to you, the struts contributors, to decide whether you think the problem is large enough to warrant this. Certainly, I think developers could become frustrated by the inconsitincies in HTML taglib.
