Perhaps this might be a good time to bring up the idea of bringing StrutsTestCase as a Struts subproject? They have an implementation of the servlet api for testing.
I thought about trying to use StrutsTestCase, but wouldn't I have been required to set up a much more complete environment to use it? I haven't looked at STC for more than a year probably, but I was thinking it was better suited to a fully developed app than for testing bits and pieces of the chain.
(BTW, we may want to look more critically at how the Chain is broken down -- the CreateAction class I patched has dependencies on the servlet API and the Chain WebContext -- should this be pushed down to o.a.s.c.servlet? I'm still not sure I really see the value in the partitioning that was done initially but if we want to stick with that, should we strive for more consistency?)
That's aside from the merits of your question. My main question is how is the development community? From http://sourceforge.net/projects/strutstestcase/ I see that there are four developers (including Ted) but I don't see a way to gauge the involvement of them. Deryl is the only one posting news, but that's not necessarily surprising. Browsing the CVS repository, I don't see much other participation from other project members any time recently.
Then also: does strutstestcase *want* to become a Struts subproject?
