Here is Ted's 2002 offering: you will see that this has nothing to do
with "stripping .x".  I think, further, that what Ted is talking about
originated with Hubert Rabago, although I am not suggesting that Ted
is suggesting otherwise.  Anyway, this is all irrelevnat.
