I can't recommend one - I'm started looking at them the other day. But the
main contenders (for open source java) seem to be:

OpenCMS - http://www.opencms.org/opencms/en/
InfoGlue - http://www.infoglue.org/
Magnolia - http://www.magnolia.info/en/magnolia.html

Theres a list of a load of java ones here:
http://java-source.net/open-source/content-managment-systems

and theres a matrix for comparing here (any, not just java)
http://www.cmsmatrix.org/

From an installation point of view Magnolia was v. easy - drop in the war
and it was up and running - only had to change the memory setting for
Tomcat.

Infoglue had an "install" program - the gui version just hung, but the
command line one worked fine. Everything seemed to go OK, but it was
throwing loads of exceptions in the Tomcat console window and parts of it
didn't work. Haven't gone back to it yet to find out why.

OpenCMS - didn't get round to installing yet.

Magnolia seems nice, but the document management and business process
modules are not free (don't know if they're open source either) and from
searching their mailing archive there are a number of people asking how to
integrate a struts app with it - but no answer on how to do that easily.
Maybe what I need is a combined CMS and portal system.

With my v. limited knowledge seems that a must have is a JSR170 compliant
CMS system. That way, in theory it would be straight forward to switch
you're CMS solution.

This question was asked recently on this list and the recommendations people
made were:

Can anyone recommend a good open source web content management system?

Thanks,
