You don't have to have ssh-agent running in order to use certificates
and keys. This only helps reduce the number of times you need to type in
the passphrase for the private key. You should be able to use a DSA
certificate and key file without any agent running.

The odd part is th CygWin ssh doesn't work now even if I give it the
password.
That sounds like you don't have the ssh-agent thing in place. Cygwin
ssh to
people works fine for me, but I seem to recall seeing something
similar to
what you're seeing before I got the agent bit set up properly.

The maven deploy command does work if I give it the password, but,
after three tries, I wasn't able to successfully provide the password
enough times.
