I can speak to this issue as I'm pretty new to struts development. I
wholeheartedly agree with Martin. Building struts from scratch is not
entirely intuitive and is a perceived barrier to new developers.
What would make sense to me is the following set of information:
- svn structure / architecture
- pom structure / architecture
- building from command line
- building with IDEA / Netbeans / Eclipse (q4e, m2eclipse)
The first time I needed to do an actual build was for the testing of the
convention plugin, and I was just utterly confused (being new to maven).
Any and all of this information would have helped... although I didn't
notice
http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/WW/Building+the+Framework+from+Source.
The thing that really bugs me, though, is that there are persistent
comments
around here about how we need more people to help with Struts, yet we
don't
even have a documented way to build the damn thing that actually works.
Not
much wonder we don't have more helpers!
