I can't think of any modern browser or downstream packaged svn that
wouldn't have zlib available...pure speculation on my part, but
perhaps SVNKit doesn't utilize deflate?  I don't know what Java HTTP
library SVNKit is using - it may use HC which should be pretty
straightforward to enable deflate, but they may just never have cared
about offering that.

The ASF has a lot of Java weenies flying about with Eclipse...  *duck* -- justin
