Thanks for the reminder, Gavin. I tend to follow up patch commits with a short email saying something like: "Thanks! Committed in rN." A short notice like that is generally enough, unless more discussion is needed (e.g. about a follow-up patch). In my opinion it is important to acknowledge the commit of a submitted patch on the mailing lists for many other reasons too, last but not least a fuzzy feeling of accomplishment for the patch submitter. Not many people follow the commits@ list. The dev@ list is the proper forum to use for both public patch submission and public acknowledgement of committed patches.
