For me the color change because of "unknown" is unequal to "unknown
author" is acceptable. The same with your idea of using initials (but
not your "cosmetic" change).
But I do not like the idea of changing the import and do some special
handling for author's names like "unknown". Maybe it would be better to
change the export and not to store a string "unknown"? Maybe if the
author is unknown we shouldn't store any author string?
