Andreas, I completely follow your argumentation about when to better use direct
or transitive dependencies. Although next version of httpclient will definitely
use commons-codec (1.3) I also don't expect this to be visible in the API (Oleg
would know for sure). The important point here is also, that the usage of
Base64 in PKCS8KeyStoreLoader (that I had totally missed) is absolutly
incoherent with the indirect usage of HttpClient.
So, yes, I'd be +1 on declaring the dependency to commons-codec directly in
synapse-core.
Jason, although maybe not a "bug" your report was helpful to think about
dependencies. ;-)
