Jone, Tapestry relies on HiveMind to such a degree that asking for its removal borders on the ludicrous. It seems to me that you should fix your configuration, and if you have better (specific) ideas on how Hivemind could act in these scenarios, submit them for discussion on the HiveMind mailing list (http://jakarta.apache.org/site/mail2.html#HiveMind). Just my two cents.
