Hello TIKA community,

My team has been having some problems installing TIKA on CentOS in support of
a Apache Solr/Durpal project.

Here are the facts as layout to me by a colleague:

In theory, a Tika install simply requires us to run "mvn install" (a Maven
install). In practice, it fails.

When installing it tries to Download
http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/org/codehaus/plexus/plexus/1.0.8/plexus-1.0.8.pom.
That .pom file exists (I can view it in Firefox), but that's just a summary
file with information on where to *actually* get the code. It says it's
"Downloading" but it never manages to complete and say it's "Downloaded".

I think this is it having trouble *getting* the actual 1.0.8 code. Although
it's not *exactly* the same process they use, I did quick browse of
https://fisheye.codehaus.org/browse/plexus/pom/branches and the oldest
available in 1.0.9. A quick look at
/root/.m2/repository/org/codehaus/plexus/plexus/1.0.8/ shows that it's an empty
directory (other directories aren't empty).

This is probably something that needs to be reported to the Tika developers;
the current developers will have a cached copy on their systems, and thus
wouldn't normally see this problem.

I did some poking around on the web but was unable to find another source for
the plexus-1.0.8 data.

If anyone can think of a different approach we might use; or source for
plexus-1.0.8; or just point us in the right directions, that would be terrific.

Thank you.

Matt Coursey
