I don't mind updating the patch and it if more than enough if it works for
last, say 3, 1.1.1 versions. Though, dropping support, but retaining code
support is not clean.

Me, as a dev, would like have the option for as long as the code allows it and
there are likely reasons why users would need it. We cannot know.
