I can address the RAT issues if it would be helpful. The files that were
causing those are archetype test fixture files. Would it be better to
exclude them in the parent POM or to add license headers?

Thank you for the encouragement. and confidence - it's very motivating.
After reflecting on it carefully, I have decided that I will need to
strengthen my foundations first before being able to contribute
meaningfully to a project at tomcat's scale. I plan to focus on working on
that this year.
