Hello Colin,

how much memory does your system have left (physically) for running an application before you start OpenOffice.org ?

Maybe you system needs more memory.

If there isn't enough memory then the system uses the hard disk to swap. Be aware that a hard disk is much slower than a memory module.

Did you hear about http://www.rule-project.org/ which is maintained by Marco Fioretti ?

Kind regards, Joost

I am using versions 1.1.2, 1.1.3 and 1.1.4. I have tried openoffice 2.0 Beta though don't think that it was recent (are there improvements related to my problem) I will load one up. I have tried many different linux versions to address this problem. The best is a server install of ubuntu trimmed off with a lightweight display manager. I have to write my own quicklaunch application to use the quick start option. Believe it or not openoffice actually works quite well on the above systems, it just takes a few years to load.
