It might be a workaround for you to run 'ls /proc/*/fd'.
Short answer: Always build using bash on win32. It's a lot faster and
doesn't have this issue. "./configure --with-use-shell=bash" and
"source winenv.set.sh"
Long answer: This was reported to Cygwin ages ago and despite a lot
of effort never resolved. AFAIK the freeze occures somewhere in the
win32 high precision timers. The ls /proc hack doesn't work reliably
as it occasionally collides with the build process which gets aborted.
I have a workstation that used to have this problem and building with
bash fixes this. The build isntructions are out of date ..
