can you give a bit more details about what you are planning to do? My
naive picture is that one would normally simply add a new machines to
the existing built bot, but some of your questions, e.g. about the
network infrastructure, seem to suggest something more complex. With
some more knowledge, perhaps we could contribute even more to this
project :-).
We are working on a build cluster inspired by the internal one Sun RE
is running. The idea is to create a place where community developers
can build OpenOffice quickly on more platforms than one. Cluster in
this context means a serverfarm that provides 50-100 build nodes and
the software to distribute a single build over so many machines. We
are looking into instantiating the build nodes as virtual machines, to
make the cluster support dynamic reconfiguration. So nothing complex,
just basic plumbing.
We are currently in the prototype phase with a tiny 7 machine cluster:

Thanks for the quick reply. So you are working on an alternative for the
existing Buildbot (http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Buildbot)
infrastructure, right? What advantages over the existing Buildbots do
you expect to have/offer?
Thanks,
Jörg
